Catalin Mitulescu

Catalin Mitulescu was born in 1972 in Bucharest, Romania. In 2001 he graduated from the UNATC (National University of Drama and Film Art) Bucharest, film Directing Department. His short films "Bucharest-Wien 8:15" and "17 Minutes Late" were both selected in the Cinefondation of Cannes Film Festival and in other festivals like Clermont- Ferrand, Karlovy Vary, Angers or Torino. For his third short film "Traffic" he was awarded in 2004 with the Palme d'Or. The short films were distributed in theatres in Romania.

In 2006 he wrote (together with Andreea Valean) and directed his first feature film "The Way I Spent the End of the World", a Romanian-French co production. The film was in the Official Selection of Cannes - Un Certain Regard and received the best Actress Award. Catalin Mitulescu also won with "The Way I Spent the End of the World" the NHK/Sundance Filmmakers Award for best European Project (2005).

He produced and cowrote the film "If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle", the film won the Silver Bear, Jury Grand Prix and the Alfred Bauer Award at the Berlinale, 2010.

Cătălin has cowrote, and produced short films such as “The Boxing Lesson”, “A Good Day for a Swim” (won the Golden Bear, Berlin, 2008),“Musicin the Blood”.

Loverboy (2011) is his second feature film, with premiere in Un Certain Regard competition at Cannes International Film festival 2010, and since then won best actress in Sarajevo and Vilnius Film Festival 2012, and was in the selection of the European Film Academy in 2011.

BY THE RAILS is his third feature film.
