Safe Place
Directed by Juraj Lerotić
A traumatic event creates a rift in the family’s everyday life. Their lives fundamentally change, as if they are waging a war invisible to everyone else. The source of the story is autobiographical, it is addressed in the film and highlighted by the fact that the author/director plays himself.

“SAFE PLACE, a film already not given to taking it easy on viewers’ emotions, the meek, honest delivery of a single word — “Sorry” — shatters the heart irreparably into a million small shards. (…) Fresh from winning 3 awards at Locarno, including the best first feature prize, the film now appears in the main competition at Sarajevo, with a long trail of further festival bookings surely ahead. Interest from discerning distributors, too, should raise the profile of “Safe Place” far above what is standard for Croatian cinema.” VARIETY
“Raw, authentic emotion and inventive lyricism combine in Juraj Lerotic’s sensitive, devastating reckoning with an acute mental health crisis in the family.” THE FILM VERDICT
”Croatian filmmaker Juraj Lerotic makes a promising feature debut with this prize-winning exploration of brotherhood. (…) he consistently finds strong angles and compositions which render Safe Place a compelling visual experience” SCREEN
“SAFE PLACE is a tense psychological drama that treats its serious topic from a sincere point of view.” CINEUROPA
"With amazing performances, strong dialogue, cinematography and directing. These are debut or second films that will find a home beyond the festival circuit” LIFFe Jury
"For the courage of a filmmaker not only to reveal himself as an author, but also to reveal his soul, in this film about unconditional love for those close to him.” Cottbus Jury
